A question for bloggers

every day my wife and i face the same dilemma, it's 9 or 10 pm and we still have no post for the next day - we've always wondered why don't we schedule a few stories in advance? it will take us more time to finish a bunch of stories in one go, but at least we'll get the chance to relax a night or two - but then again, why do we have to schedule a post if we can simply write in the moment and post the story in the morning? a lot of times the topics change, some news become obsolete or new ones simply pop up..

so far, like tonight, we keep our options open, like so open we have no clue what to do, but somehow right before we go to bed, we always manage to lay down the egg..

how about you? what's your strategy and what do you think works best for the blog?

i write at the spur of the moment. But I also have a free blog.
A part of your responsibility towards your readers and your advertisers would be to keep the blog interesting – scheduling a story ahead shouldn't hurt, you can always change those schedules for more interesting LIVE stories!

I noticed that many of the American bloggers use their blogs as therapy sessions and this can be trying for the readers, however then you have bloggers like yourself and Mark248, you use your blogs for information purposes or to highlight topics which Kuwait is a wealth of topics. I think if you got out and about in Kuwait with your camera there would be plenty of blogging subjects in Kuwait. I am tempted to carry a camera and photograph all the unbelievable non-sense going on and create my own blog 'Kuwait, Really?'

nothing like the excitement of the spur of the moment, we've been running on adrenaline for almost 2 years without scheduling… let's see if we can continue

For my blog, I compose the entry all week long in my mind and then actually make write the entry on Sunday morning. I have written one entry early (Memorial Day), but that was because I planned on using a lot of outside material I had to take time gathering.

When I write about one of my motorcycle trips, I usually make notes during the ride and compose the entry after the fact, sprinkling in pictures and such.

It seems to work for me, but I guess you need to go with what works for you.

    8. 965malls says:

It happens at lot of times and I guess it is best to cook the story in your head first, the outcome would be much better

You're just lost without her – just you and your rice pudding. Maybe she will send some pics of Beirut that you can post?

    10. 965malls says:

He he.. spot on.. lost & starved to death :)

I was so bored I actually talked to the dog, I had a feeling she understood what u said, or am o getting nuts?

    12. Traveler says:

The only problem I have with doing that is that over the course of a week, sometimes more than one idea starts to fight for attention and I end up with a single post about two subjects. I could put out a special mid week post, I suppose, but then I would probably confuse some folks that it might lead to thinking it is Sunday already.

      Pix of Lebonese Airport roaches?

    14. Traveler says:

A dog is the only one you can talk to and be reasonably sure they won't betray your trust.

As I did my morning errands yesterday during my window of opportunity, I saw so many blog opportunities that your wife would have jumped on like I went to Bath and Body, granted it was a sale, there were open cartons all over the store, broken liquids spilt on the floor which is a danger to shoppers, who runs these stores for Al-Shaya? If I would have had a camera I could have shot it for your blog. Also, with your wife's permission go undercover to a grocery store in Al-Kout and watch all the Chinese hookers openly soliciting men in the frozen food aisles. Scandal? I would hope so, but this store was closed down in Salwa for expired kit-kats, which is worse and you can't tell me that the managment of this store doesn't know they are operating them, they are in gangs. So alot of blogging opportunities in Kuwait, just sayin.

    17. With my busy schedule I blog when I feel inspired or have time. I have two other American’s and one Kuwaiti that are supposed to help me but just don’t make the time. As you know that in order to maintain your blog it takes passion and dedication.

My blog is really just for me and about my experiences in Kuwait. If someone doesn’t like it then the only solution is to stop reading it. :) Don’t compare blogs in a negative way to other blogs. Most of us are different. I’m never going to be the type of bllogger that posts about a crappy burger saying it tastes great when it doesn’t and then the next week you see that same burger place being advertised on the right sidebar. Nothing wrong with that but it’s just not me. It has to be good and we have always paid for my own burgers. :)

    18. 965malls says:

interesting approach, in that case you have no issues – we feel the urge to write something everyday not just for us, but for those who read us, and we have always paid for our own burgers too :)

    19. That’s why I read this blog. I know from previous posts that you are honest and still have integrity. My comment before wasn’t directed at you. It was a half response to Susie. There are too many blogs now for readers to chose from. If some readers don’t like American bloggers just don’t read the American blogs. Nobody is holding a gun to their heads. ;)

      I love your blog. :-)

    20. Sorry for the typos. iPhone nail drama…;)

    21. 965malls says:

thx dear – i almost forgot about susie, that was days ago…

    22. 965malls says:

he he.. i have short nails and the drama still persists, but i don't mind it as it comes from apple :)
