Meet Anghami

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

anghami1

anghami is an arab music streaming startup that is growing at leaps and strides - this app has found a market gap and is quickly filling it as international music apps face legal issues in our part of the world - the likes of spotify or pandora do not work, hence anghami is the perfect alternative with a plus, the arabic music archive.

anghami2

this app has a playlist, a song player, a search platform and a friends page that allows you to invite your pals or check what's trending, the beauty in all this is that the songs are all legal, so no worries for piracy issues.

anghami3

anghami was launched back in november and today it is booming with more than 20,000 downloads per day becoming the number one music app in the middle east!! the owners are 2 lebanese guys elie habib & eddy maroun and is available for free for blackberry, iphone & android and nokia.

you can also check anghami's youtube channel here and facebook page here.

Meet “Goat Edition” music craze!

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

following harlem shake, a new craze is invading youtube called "goat edition" - take any song, slap a goat's scream at the right place and you've got yourself a "goat edition" - the above is taylor swift's "trouble goat edition" and below justin bieber's "baby goat edition."

adele got her share of goat screaming too...

but i guess the stupidest one is "harlem shake's goat edition" below, it ranks as number 1 in my opinion!

not sure why stupidity is invading the new generation, don't they have anything better to do?

Meet new Kuwait Music

Monday, July 30th, 2012

the first time we came across kuwait music, it was back in december 2010, we had just started our blog - from the moment we laid our eyes on the blog (back then) we immediately knew it will be a hit and added it on our blog's favorites - what attracted us to km back then still stands true today, a combination of superior creativity in terms of look & feel, and a superior content, which makes the experience quite unique.

today km has evolved into something much bigger than a blog, it is the champion of the music world in kuwait - this of course means much more than a blog, it talks to the music community through various topics that interest them: registering a band, gettig to know the music fans or other artists, classes lessons, knowledge base center etc... km also talks to music lovers in general and offers world music news, arabic music news, western music, middle eastern music, musical instruments.. etc..

km is also an engaging platform where you can interact in different ways, be it by commenting on blog posts or by writing your own music articles - simply follow the guidelines and submit your work, you might become a regular writer and have your own voice on the website.

scene is an awesome event search engine on kuwait music, basically it is a self-service portal where you can submit your event with map viewing, image gallery, google cal sync, yahoo and outlook, social media sharing tolls, etc...

scene is truly amazing, however we have a couple of minor comments - once you're on scene, you can't find a kuwait music home button, we've spent some time before figuring out - the km link is at the bottom of the page in gray-on-black small font phrase that says "scene is owned by kuwait music" - our second comment is a bit esthetic, "total events" is hard to read, may be a different color would contrast better.

the new km is simply amazing, it is easier to navigate and the overall experience has been greatly enhanced - it also felt the website is much faster than before - for more on the people behind kuwait music you can read their recent arabtimes interview here.

good luck guys, we're as confident of your potential as ever!

Legendary Warda will be missed!

Friday, May 18th, 2012

we're not much into arabic music, may be because such talents are yet to be found!

legendary warda passed away at 73, leaving a wealth of classic songs, our favorite being "fi yom wa leyla" - but the arab world has lost much more than a singer, and we're really wondering what has happened to the arabic song?

in today's world, everyone is after the quick buck, releasing songs with short expiry dates - that warda's songs are still alive today is probably a lesson for every producer that quality lives and can make money on the long run.

we don't understand the music industry, may be the problem is elsewhere - is it a question of finding talents or tastes have simply changed?

rest in peace warda, your talent is one of a kind and no one can ever fill your shoes.

Stupid habits!

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

a jordanian singer was killed by friendly fire at a wedding when the brother of the groom decided to take a few shots with his pump-action in celebration of the event - 2 other people are seriously injured.

why do people still use shotguns at weddings and why can't they quit this nasty habit? i can't imagine how this happy wedding suddenly turned into a drama for something so stupid! the bride must be devastated, imagine what kind memories she will be carrying every time she celebrates her wedding anniversary, and for the rest of her life!

i salute the jordanian government and their ministry of justice for tightening the laws against people firing guns during social events - police arrested the culprit who is now accused of "deliberate murder"...

Winehouse’s website mourns her death

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

a touchy way to mourn the loss of amy winehouse - i tried to visit her website but it shows a black screen with a black & white picture of hers, quite sad actually - no news yet on the cause of her demise, but a post mortem is expected to be carried out next week, to determine the cause of death.

celebrities and fans have lined up to pay tribute to the singer after she was found dead at her home in camden, north london yesterday.

winehouse battled drink and drug problems throughout her career and news of her death was quickly followed by suggestions that it could be related to one or the other - what a loss to all r&b, jazz & soul music fans! god bless her soul.

Have you met Johnny Madness yet?

Brilliant Kuwaiti opera singer at Arabs Got Talent

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

my sister produces arabs got talent at mbc so she's been asking me for weeks to watch the first episode - i was very happy with the results and even happier to see a fantastic kuwaiti talent called abdalrahman alhamid Abdul AL rahman Al Mahmeed singing opera (my favourite kind of music) - abdul also sang my favourite opera song caruso or te volio bene assai, here are the lyrics in italian with english translation - enjoy

poi all'improvviso uscì una lacrima

confondono i pensieri.

Here, where the sea shines
and the wind howls,
on the old terrace beside the gulf of Sorrento,
a man embraces a girl
he wept after,
then clears his throat and continues the song:

I love you very much,
very, very much, you know;
it is a chain by now
that melts the blood inside the veins, you know…

He saw the lights out on the sea,
thought of the nights there in America,
but they were only the fishermen’s lamps
and the white wash astern.
He felt the pain in the music
and stood up from the piano,
but when he saw the moon emerging from a cloud
death also seemed sweeter to him.
He looked the girl in the eyes,
those eyes as green as the sea.
Then suddenly a tear fell
and he believed he was drowning.

I love you very much,
very, very much, you know,
it is a chain by now
that melts the blood inside the vein you know…

The power of opera,
where every drama is a hoax;
with a little make-up and with mime
you can become someone else.
But two eyes that look at you,
so close and real,
make you forget the words,
confuse your thoughts,

So everything became small,
also the nights there in America.
You turn and see your life
through the white wash astern.

But, yes, it is life that ends
and he did not think so much about it
on the contrary, he already felt happy
and continued his song:

I love you very much,
very, very much, you know,
it is a chain by now
that melts the blood inside the veins, you know…

I love you very much,
very, very much, you know,
it is a chain by now
that melts the blood inside the veins, you know…
