They’re everywhere!

road-sign

i read on arabtimes online about this restaurant in salmiya, caught serving pork meat on new year's eve!! though this is not the first time this happens in kuwait, wondered how can pork still enter kuwait despite the various control measures?! swine is supposed to be banned and inspectors should have caught this at border points.

i'm also curious to know the name of that restaurant and whether customers knew what they were served, was it like a new year's special, come one come all eat like pigs oink oink?

well if you're heading towards salmiya, be careful of pigs! you may not find them in restaurants, but i assure you there are plenty across the streets and inside the malls...

that is some sick news of course..but whats sicker is the way u wrote about it!

thanks for your note – to avoid any misunderstanding, what i meant with pigs on the streets and in malls are criminals who are stabbing and killing people right left & center – crime is on the rise in town, just read the papers and you will understand what i meant – apologies for those who understood it the wrong way

You should really delete this post. It does not read as you intended. Also – there are no live pigs in Kuwait in Salmiya or elsewhere and the malls are safe and generally not stalked by criminals.
Why don't you write a little more about things which are the topic of your blog .. like whats on sale at Harvey Nichols at the Avenues ?
The blog is going to be really boring to come back to , judging from the last few posts.
Hope you dont mind — think positive.

maybe they are not importet and raised localy! right|?

    5. Samir says:

I agree with Arabian, Your blog is "965malls" and you should talk about malls and shops and sales. You can talk about local news sometimes, but don't make it a main focus.

    6. 965malls says:

are you serious??!! 2 weeks ago a doctor was slaughtered in the avenues haven't you heard?? last year another guy died in the marina mall parking, next to the basket ball courts, everyday we hear and read about people being stabbed or raped, where have you been??

as for the posts, thanks for you constructive feedback, the last few posts were done out of beirut as we were on vacation and we didn't really post much – why don't we post about sales or promotions? simply because we are not about that, we rarely post "news", you can find that at the avenues facebook page or twitter feeds, sms or various advertising campaigns.. we'd like to write stories and opinions, create debates and engagement – when we started the blog t was about news and no one was interested in sale news, so we shifted our content and this is how we started to get traffic and interest.

we often tweet about sales and promotions whenever we wander the malls, we believe twitter is a much better platform for "news" topics than a blog.

      thanks again for your feedback.

    7. 965malls says:

maybe, but that's a more evil plan :)

    8. 965malls says:

we're stuck with that name unfortunately… we learned later, much later that a blog is something personal, with an opinion or a voice.. news like that is better for specialized websites or twitter.. we really don't care if 100,000 people read us or 1,000 we might stop writing tomorrow and resume in a month, it's like a journal and we'd like keep it that way – it is a niche blog, doing well and we're happy with it as is – we will do our best to write about shops and sales if it makes sense and fits a story, otherwise we will not announce a sale here – hope you understand our strategy :)

    9. Upset says:

Well unlike some of your readers I like the way your blog goes and I can get all the sale news on my mobile. I think that what you say here few others dare to talk about and there's nothing boring about it. So haters will always hate, you better not care about them :)

    10. Pinkish says:

Why are you being defensive? your blog has 12 posts in each page, if you go back 5 pages back, that's almost 3 months, you find that you have a minimum of 1 story about a shop or restaurant in a mall, and a maximum of 4.this is 25% of your posts about malls already. That is a not a bad figure, but you can make it higher. i am not with news, i like your stories about your experiences there but it will be good if you can write more stories like that. i loved hope can never be lost, first post by rose, starbucks not my favorite coffee shop anymore… all those are in the past 5 pages and all good stories.I hate the redundancy of news you read on other blogs, you see the same "news" everywhere and no one cares to be different, very few scratch their heads to write something personal or good, i can name danderma, 248am, his & hers, expatandthecity, kuwaitiful.. these are a bit different but the rest are pittiful

    11. 965malls says:

thanks upset, we do care because we respect every reader, hater or supporter :)

    12. 965malls says:

woooow… you've done our homework pinkish!! thanks for the info, didn't realize that – you sound like you're in research :)

Don't let others try to tell you what to put in your blog thats your business. I think the pig comment may have struck a nerve with some readers especially Arab ones because calling anyone a pig is considered a very bad insult. I understood what you meant and where you were going with it and you clarified it already so no worries.

    15. Traveler says:

While I agree that no restaurant should serve food that has ingredients that might cause you to break dietary restrictions; I am not sure why Kuwait doesn't adopt similar restrictions that exist in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Both locales have pork rooms for those who wish to purchase it, but restrict serving at any restaurant. This means an individual wants to enjoy pork at home they can while the public is protected from mistakenly violating dietary rules while dining out. Seems like a better solution and it would prevent black marketing of pork products.

By the way, I understood what you meant in your posting and see no problem with you posting your opinion on your blog anytime you choose to.

    16. porkypig says:

I agree with Traveler..I see in Europe many places and shops for halal food… why not in here? I mean Dubai is a Muslim Arab country but still tries to be open minded about people living in there who aren't all Muslims.. why always ask others to live to YOUR standards and never try to live to others'?

    17. 965malls says:

thanks for your support anonymous – glad you understood our point :)

    18. 965malls says:

thanks mate – glad you cought the pun :) as for the suggestions, it makes sense but i guess it's up to the authorities to decide on that – dubai is not a dry country so they are already felxible in that way, kuwait is different and we have to respect that, it's their choice after all.

    19. 965malls says:

agree with half your comment porkypig, the other half i strongly desagree – people in kuwait decide on what kind of rules they want, if we disagree with that we can't force them to change – their country, their rules… just like our blog, our rules

    20. Traveler says:

I agree it is ther Kuwaitii's choice. But it could improve the revenue stream of tourism and improve the perception of the country in Western eyes.

    21. 965malls says:

i have no doubt! look at dubai and how tourists flock there, you mentioned it in your comment – but that's from our perspective as expats.. just saying :)

    22. Pigs and I says:

They say pork sausages taste wowsome!! I like the laissez faire attitude the authorities in the Emirates have. No wonder Waitrose in Dubai mall does pork in a section which they like calling as- Pork for Non Muslims.
If you don't like it or are not supposed to go anywhere near it; look the other way. The long and short of it is it is all about resisting temptation. And don't let's forget pigs are also the Almighty's creation just as every tiny speck of matter: living or inanimate is.

    23. 965malls says:

it's a good way to serve both, agree – as expats we do love pork and would like to buy it here one day – but again, this is the kuwait government's call and given the political situation in kuwait i am sure such a proportion will create a tsunami of protests from opposition groups :)
