a friend of mine has been pushing me to write about this kuwaiti restaurant, but my husband was holding back as he prefers to try it ourselves before we could even mention it on our blog - so we went this weekend to try "tikka wa lumy", a small restaurant in almubarakiya, opposite souk almanakh and gulf bank.

the place is really modest and barely fits 5 or 6 tables with a few more tables outside, but it was so cold we had to stay in - the owner is a lawyer called ammar alfawzan who basically has many talents, to name a few, he is an underwater photographer and an awesome chef!

so we went in like health investigators looking for evidence of misconduct that might threaten, harm or otherwise endanger the health, safety and welfare of people so we can sue the lawyer for a change :)

we tried a selection of food from the menu but they were all amazing.. tikka wa lumy the restaurant's signature dish was exquisite, the meat was very tender, and the marination of lemon and onions gave it a very special taste - kabab & rice was very good, even um jassim, a pan fried green peas with onions, tomato, parsley and lemon juice was succulent - we tried chicken tikka and some other starters and the food was simply perfect!

we felt that our mission was coming to a failure and that we will end-up loosing that case, but when it came to desert, we finally found what we were looking for! "elba", a chilled milk pudding mixed with cardamom and saffron, that was so bad my husband almost puked! but to its defense, it turned out to be an acquired taste as a lot of people liked it, and someone from the desert department called "bread & sugar" mixed with ghee came to its rescue and bailed it out! "bread & sugar" are really awesome, they made all the difference!

service was good but there is room for improvement when it comes to serving the courses - we basically got everything at one go, the starters and the main course, followed by the drinks... we would have loved to get the starters and drinks first, followed by our main course - but here again the evidence was weak as one would expect such things in small & modest restaurants and the staff are extremely friendly..

we waited for the bill to release the final verdict, but kd 18 was not what we expected, it was actually a bit lower than what we had anticipated.

final verdict: the suspect is innocent and free to go :) we recommend you to try tikka wa lumy, especially if you work in the vicinity i guess you would like it.
